N2  - This article examines the linguistic characteristics of intralingual and interlingual lacunae. It describes their lexical, semantic, grammatical, and pragmatic types and identifies the principal factors underlying their formation. Lacunae are interpreted as meaningful indicators of paradigmatic gaps within a language system and structural asymmetries between different languages.
