This study develops an AI-supported pedagogicalmodel for fostering EFL students’ intercultural competence through independent learningin higher education. The study employs a conceptual-design methodology integratingtheories of intercultural competence, learner autonomy, self-regulated learning, and AI-supported language education. The proposed model comprises four dimensions ofintercultural competence: cognitive-cultural, affective-attitudinal, behavioural-communicative, and critical-reflective. These dimensions are developed through seveninterconnected stages: Explore, Interpret, Compare, Interact, Verify, Reflect, and Transfer. The learning process is further supported by a self-regulatory cycle consisting of Plan,Monitor, Seek Support, Self-assess, and Adapt. Artificial intelligence is positioned as apedagogical scaffold that can provide clarification, alternative perspectives, simulatedinteraction, verification support, and formative feedback without replacing learnerjudgment. The study argues that the pedagogical value of AI depends on whether itenhances rather than reduces learner reasoning. The model provides a methodologicalframework for organizing independent intercultural learning and establishes a foundationfor future empirical validation.</mods:abstract><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8601">2026-08-14</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Article</mods:genre></mets:xmlData></mets:mdWrap></mets:dmdSec><mets:amdSec ID="TMD_eprint_2468"><mets:rightsMD ID="rights_eprint_2468_mods"><mets:mdWrap MDTYPE="MODS"><mets:xmlData><mods:useAndReproduction>
