The purpose of the study is to identify the epistemological, semiological, and onomasiological features of the nomination process and to conduct a comparative analysis of the characteristics selected by different peoples as the basis for naming the same object or phenomenon. The research objectives include synthesizing theories of the word and nomination, revealing the semiotic nature of onomatopoeic words, identifying the internal form of words through etymological analysis, and examining the process of affixal word formation in Uzbek step by step. The study employs descriptive, comparative-contrastive, etymological, semantic, onomasiological, semiological, and structural-morphological methods of analysis. According to the findings, an examination of the word “hare” reveals that Germanic languages select color characteristics as the basis for nomination, Slavic languages emphasize movement, Finno-Ugric languages rely on anatomical features, while Turkic languages consistently select the speed of movement as the motivating characteristic. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that the nature of onomatopoeic words as iconic signs acquires national specificity through the phonetic system of each language, that the internal form of words gradually weakens at different rates over time, and that Uzbek allows complex meanings to be expressed through a nine-stage process of affixation derived from a single root. The findings indicate that nomination theory can be enriched not only through abstract philosophical perspectives but also through concrete cross-linguistic comparative evidence. The results have theoretical and practical significance for lexicography, etymology, comparative-typological linguistics, lexicology, semasiology, and translation studies, and may serve as an important scholarly resource for future research. %A Nodirabegim Tursunova %A Dilafruz Tojimahammadova %R OJS:2715 %T EPISTEMOLOGICAL, SEMIOLOGICAL, AND ONOMASIOLOGICAL FEATURES OF THE NOMINATION PROCESS: A COMPARATIVE-TYPOLOGICAL STUDY %D 2026 %J Scientific and innovative research in the social and humanitarian sphere
