COGNITIVE REPRESENTATION OF EPISTOLARY PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK FICTION
This article presents a comparative analysis of the cognitive-pragmatic features of phraseological units used in epistolary texts in English and Uzbek fiction. The study primarily focuses on the role of epistolary phraseological units in expressing human emotional states, conceptual experience, communicative intentions, and individual conceptual spheres. Phraseological units are analyzed in relation to how individuals perceive and categorize reality and conceptualize abstract phenomena on the basis of concrete experience. The research material consists of epistolary excerpts from Abdulla Qodiriy’s novel O‘tkan kunlar (Bygone Days) and Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. The study employs descriptive, comparative-typological, contextual, componential, conceptual, and pragmatic methods of analysis. The findings reveal that epistolary phraseological units are formed on the basis of conceptual models such as “emotion is a liquid,” “suffering is a burden,” “emotion is fire,” “emotion is a phraseological state,” and “human is an animal.” It was observed that emotional states in Uzbek epistolary texts are often expressed directly through figurative and metaphorical phraseological expressions, whereas in English epistolary discourse, emotional meanings are more frequently conveyed indirectly through pragmatic devices, irony, evaluation, and communicative context. The study demonstrates that epistolary phraseological units serve as an important means of revealing characters’ psychological states, individualizing their personalities, defining communicative relationships, and creating literary images.",
