It compares the genre status, textual structure, and semantic and pragmatic characteristics of such units as dastans, fairy tales, myths, legends, traditional narratives, folk songs, lullabies, anecdotes, lof (humorous exaggeration), askiya (the art of witty verbal contests), riddles, tongue twisters, blessings, prayers, curses, proverbs, and sayings. The article substantiates the view that paremiological units constitute a distinct microsystem within the folklore macrosystem, characterized by brevity, stability, generalizing meaning, and repeated use in communication. Criteria such as length, narrativity, predicativity, gnomicity, communicative independence, mode of performance, variability, traditionality, and pragmatic function are proposed to distinguish folklore units from paremiological units.</mods:abstract><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8601">2026-01-01</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Article</mods:genre></mets:xmlData></mets:mdWrap></mets:dmdSec><mets:amdSec ID="TMD_eprint_2634"><mets:rightsMD ID="rights_eprint_2634_mods"><mets:mdWrap MDTYPE="MODS"><mets:xmlData><mods:useAndReproduction>
