Исследование основано на антропоцентрическом подходе, согласно которому язык рассматривается как неотъемлемая часть когнитивной, социальной и коммуникативной деятельности человека. Основные положения теории речевых актов, включая локутативный, иллокутивный и перлокутивный акты, анализируются с точки зрения вежливости. Особое внимание уделяется директивным речевым актам (приказ, просьба, совет, предложение) и их прагматическим особенностям. Установлено, что во французском языке стратегии вежливости часто реализуются посредством косвенности, модальных глаголов и форм условного наклонения.
