THE COMPETENCY-BASED APPROACH – METHODOLOGICAL FOUNDATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF HIGHER EDUCATION

This article analyzes the competency-based approach as a methodological foundation for the development of higher education. The article reveals the theoretical and methodological essence of the concepts of “competence” and “competency”, and analyzes their differences. It also examines the characteristics and classifications of key competencies, as well as their role in shaping professional competence. The article analyzes the changes the competency-based approach brings to educational goals, content, methods, and assessment systems. In conclusion, the competency-based approach is defined as the main strategic direction for training in higher education – not just qualified, but socially adapted specialists capable of independent decision-making and lifelong learning.
