PHONOLOGICAL AND MORPHOLOGICAL FEATURES OF NEUTRALIZATION IN ENGLISH, RUSSIAN AND UZBEK

This article provides a comparative analysis of phonological neutralization and its interaction with morphology in English, Russian and Uzbek. The study examines key types of neutralization, including final devoicing, vowel reduction and consonant cluster simplification, demonstrating how phonological oppositions may be fully or partially neutralized in surface structures. Special attention is paid to the role of stress, syllable position and morphological paradigms in preserving or obscuring underlying contrasts. The findings reveal both universal tendencies, such as the prevalence of neutralization at word boundaries, and language-specific patterns determined by phonological systems and morphological organization. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of the relationship between phonology and morphology in different language types.
