DEVELOPING FUNCTIONAL LITERACY OF PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS THROUGH LITERARY WORKS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES

This article analyzes the issues of developing functional literacy of primary school students through the use of literary works in English language classes. The study highlights the essence of functional literacy, its significance in primary education, and the didactic potential of literary texts in developing students’ language competence, logical thinking, communicative activity, and creative thinking. In addition, the article demonstrates methods for improving students’ reading comprehension, independent thinking, situational communication, and problem-solving skills through the use of fairy tales, short stories, and dialogic texts in English lessons. The effectiveness of interactive methods organized on the basis of literary works in developing functional literacy is scientifically and pedagogically substantiated.
