COMPARATIVE-COGNITIVE ANALYSIS OF THE LEXICAL-SEMANTIC VALENCY OF INTERFIXAL MORPHEMES (BASED ON THE ENGLISH AND UZBEK LANGUAGES)

This article presents a comparative-cognitive analysis of the lexical-semantic valency of interfixal morphemes based on the English and Uzbek languages. The topic is directly related to word structure, word formation, and semantic relations. Although an interfix does not carry an independent lexical meaning, it is positioned between two stems or components and serves to connect them. Therefore, the article examines not only the formal role of interfixes but also their importance in shaping semantic relations within words. Comparative, morphemic, lexical-semantic, cognitive, and contextual analysis methods were employed in the study. The results reveal that interfixes in English are mainly active in terminological and neoclassical words, whereas in Uzbek they intensify semantic relations in reduplicative and paired units. The novelty of the article lies in interpreting interfixal morphemes not merely as technical linking elements, but as small yet significant units expressing semantic valency between lexical components.
