THE ROLE OF CRAFTSMANSHIP IN THE ECONOMY OF THE KHIVA KHANATE

This article analyzes the role of craftsmanship in the economy of the Khiva Khanate from historical-economic and socio-cultural perspectives. It highlights that the khanate’s economy developed through the interconnection of irrigated agriculture, livestock breeding, domestic and foreign trade, and craft industries. Craftsmanship is assessed as the productive foundation of urban economy, the main sector supplying the domestic market, a factor stimulating trade relations, and an important institution shaping social stratification and professional traditions. The study substantiates that in centers such as Khiva, Urgench, Hazorasp, Xonqa, and Qo‘ng‘irot, occupations such as weaving, jewelry-making, coppersmithing, pottery, wood carving, leatherworking, carpet weaving, and weapon production occupied an important place in economic life.
