METAPHOR AS AN OBJECT OF LINGUISTIC AND COGNITIVE RESEARCH

This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the transformation of metaphor from atraditional rhetorical and stylistic device into an object of modern cognitive-semantic research. It arguesthat metaphor is not merely a figurative means of embellishing speech but also a fundamental mechanismunderlying human cognition, conceptualization, and the construction of the cognitive worldview. Drawingon the works of Uzbek and international linguists, the study examines the key principles of CognitiveMetaphor Theory. Particular attention is paid to the ways abstract concepts are structured through concreteexperiences, as well as to the comparative analysis of the national and cultural characteristics of somaticphraseological units in Uzbek and English. The article also explores the role of conceptual mapping in constructing an individual authorial worldview within literary texts. The findings confirm that metaphor isa complex cognitive phenomenon reflecting the intricate relationship between language, thought, andculture.
