DIRECT AND INDIRECT COMMISSIVE SPEECH ACTS IN ENGLISH AND THEIR FUNCTIONAL-PRAGMATIC FEATURES

This article analyzes the forms of direct and indirect expression of commissive speech acts in English and their functional-pragmatic features. Within the framework of speech act theory, the communicative essence of commissives, the speaker’s commitment to a future action, and the functions of these acts in communication are examined. The study explores the pragmatic interpretation of commissive speech acts, their dependence on context, their relation to politeness strategies, and their practical use in English through examples. The results show that direct commissives are expressed explicitly and clearly, while indirect commissives are understood through pragmatic inference and context.
