A COMPARATIVE SEMANTIC STUDY OF PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS IN THE UZBEK AND ENGLISH LANGUAGES

This article presents a comparative semantic analysis of phraseological units in the Uzbek and English languages. Particular attention is paid to their meanings, structures, areas of use, and national-cultural characteristics. The similarities and differences between phraseological units in the two languages are explained through relevant examples. The article also shows how idiomatic expressions reflect people’s way of life, worldview, traditions, and cultural values. Phraseological units with full, partial, and no direct equivalents in the other language are examined. In addition, the study discusses semantic and cultural difficulties that may arise when translating such expressions. The findings of the research may be useful for the study of Uzbek and English phraseology, translation practice, and foreign language teaching.
