LINGUISTIC INTERPRETATION OF THE CATEGORY OF MODALITY AND THE HISTORY OF ITS STUDY

This article examines the linguistic nature, essence, and history of the study of the category of modality, which is regarded as one of the most complex and multifaceted categories in linguistics. The research analyzes the concepts of objective and subjective modality, as well as the grammatical, lexical, and intonational means through which modality is expressed. Particular attention is paid to the role of modal words in conveying the category of modality and to their lexical-semantic potential.
