The article examines the contextual-environmental approach as an innovative methodological framework for developing the linguocultural competence of students in national groups studying Russian as a foreign language. The relevance of the study is determined by the growing importance of intercultural communication, globalization processes, and the need to integrate linguistic and cultural components into contemporary language education. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between language and culture, as well as to methodological difficulties associated with acquiring culturally marked linguistic units, including national and cultural realia, non-equivalent vocabulary, phraseological units, symbolic images, ethnocultural concepts, and elements of traditional Russian culture. The article substantiates the concept of contextual-environmental learning, in which the educational environment is regarded not only as a condition for organizing the learning process but also as its active pedagogical component. The main principles of this approach are identified as cultural integration, visualization of cultural concepts, associative perception, communicative orientation, emotional and value-based interaction, and modeling of a natural cultural environment. It is argued that the contextual-environmental approach contributes to students’ ability to interpret the cultural meanings of linguistic units, establish stable connections between language and culture, and participate effectively in intercultural communication. The contextual-environmental approach is considered a promising methodological framework for teaching Russian to students of national groups in philological programs.
