Abstract

This article analyzes the communicative and pragmatic features of United Nations political discourse from a linguistic perspective. Particular attention is paid to the communicative purposes of political speeches produced within the UN framework, the relationship between the addresser and the addressee, speech strategies and tactics, as well as the functional characteristics of pragmatic means of influence. The study examines the discursive functions of communicative strategies such as persuasion, appeal, evaluation, legitimation, encouragement of cooperation, and justification of positions employed in speeches at the UN General Assembly, statements by the Secretary-General, and official speeches related to international political communication. It also considers the pragmatic significance of modal units, personal pronouns, evaluative vocabulary, metaphorical expressions, repetition, and parallel constructions in political discourse. The findings demonstrate that UN political discourse constitutes a complex communicative system aimed not only at conveying information but also at shaping the international community’s attitudes toward particular events, reinforcing shared values, and encouraging collective action.
