THE KURDISH FACTOR IN TURKEY’S SYRIA POLICY: THE INTERPLAY OF NATIONAL SECURITY AND GEOPOLITICAL INTERESTS

This article analyzes the role and significance of the Kurdish factor in Turkey’s foreign policy toward Syria. The study examines the increasing political activism of Syrian Kurds, the formation of self-governing structures in northern Syria, and the impact of these developments on Turkey’s national security and territorial integrity. It also analyzes the political and strategic dimensions of Ankara’s military operations conducted within the framework of its Syria policy, including Euphrates Shield, Olive Branch, Peace Spring, Winter Eagle, and Claw-Sword. The article argues that Turkey’s use of hard-power instruments in addressing the Kurdish issue serves not only as a means of safeguarding national security but also as an instrument for strengthening its geopolitical position in Syria and advancing its regional interests.
