Enhancing students’ logical thinking and sustaining their interest in problem solving remain important objectives in school mathematics education, as conventional exercises do not always sufficiently stimulate independent reasoning. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a mathematics teaching methodology based on the systematic use of non-standard problems. In 2026, a three-stage pedagogical experiment was conducted, consisting of a diagnostic pretest, a formative intervention, and a control posttest. The internal reliability of the measurement instrument in the experimental and control groups was confirmed by Cronbach’s α = 0.78. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, an independent-samples Student’s t-test, and Cohen’s d effect size. After adjustment for baseline test results, the experimental group’s scores increased from 60.8 ± 7.6 to 78.6 ± 8.1, whereas the control group’s scores changed from 57.9 ± 7.4 to 58.2 ± 7.9. The logical thinking index in the experimental group increased from 62.1 ± 6.5 to 79.1 ± 7.2, while problem-solving accuracy improved from 64.0% to 84.7%. The between-group difference was statistically significant (p 0.001), and Cohen’s d = 0.80 indicated a moderately high practical effect. The findings demonstrate that the gradual integration of non-standard problems into mathematics lessons strengthens students’ analytical, argumentative, and independent problem-solving skills. The study’s scientific contribution lies in specifying a three-stage didactic sequence and assessment criteria for implementing this approach.
