SCIENTIFIC INTERPRETATION OF THE CONCEPTS OF TERM, TERMINOLOGY, TERMINOLOGICAL VOCABULARY, AND MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY

This article provides a comparative analysis of the scientific interpretations of the concepts of “term,” “nomen,” “terminology,” “terminological vocabulary,” “terminological system,” “medical term,” “terminological combination,” “multi-component term,” and “terminological variant” in international and Uzbek terminology studies. The study demonstrates that these concepts are often used synonymously in the metalanguage of terminology studies, which may lead to methodological ambiguity in comparative research on specialized terminologies. The analysis identifies the nature of the designated object, the characteristics and structure of the descriptive unit, and its variability as the main criteria for distinguishing these concepts. As a result, working definitions of ophthalmological terminology and ophthalmological terminological vocabulary are proposed.
