Abstract

The article examines the social-status, communicative-positional, and institutional conditioning of politeness forms in public university communication in Russian and Uzbek. The comparative analysis demonstrates that the choice of linguistic means is associated with the participants’ social-role configuration and communicative position, as well as with the local genre practices of a particular university resource.
