Abstract

This article provides a linguistic analysis of syntactic parallelism using an electronic poetic corpus compiled from 346 poems by the Chinese poet Bing Xin (冰心, 1900–1999) from her collections Fanxing (繁星, 1923) and Chunshui (春水, 1923). The study aims to identify the main types of parallelism in Bing Xin’s poetry, examine their patterns of use through corpus analysis, and substantiate their poetic functions from a linguistic perspective. The research employs an integrated methodology combining corpus linguistics, linguopoetic analysis, frequency analysis, and collocational analysis. The results show that at least one type of parallelism was identified in 63% of the 346 poems. Three main types of parallelism were distinguished: lexical parallelism (40.7%), involving the parallel use of color epithets and images of nature; syntactic parallelism (28%), characterized by the consecutive repetition of identical grammatical patterns; and semantic parallelism (22.8%), involving the use of semantically corresponding structures. Drawing on the theories of Roman Jakobson and Geoffrey Leech, parallelism in Bing Xin’s poetry is interpreted not merely as a stylistic ornament but as a fundamental linguistic mechanism of meaning-making. The study makes an initial contribution to the syntactic and linguistic investigation of Bing Xin’s poetry in Uzbek linguistics.
