Abstract
This article provides a comparative analysis of the linguocultural features of symmetry and asymmetry in English and Uzbek literary texts. Symmetry and asymmetry are examined not merely as structural phenomena but also as means of shaping national and cultural meanings, axiological perspectives, and the author’s conceptual position in a literary text. Comparative linguocultural analysis is employed as the primary research method. Drawing on examples from Charles Dickens’s A Tale of Two Cities, William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and Cho‘lpon’s Kecha va kunduz, the study analyzes syntactic parallelism, antonymic pairs, semantic oppositions, and asymmetries between literary images. The findings demonstrate that structural symmetry often occurs in combination with semantic or axiological asymmetry. In English literary texts, these phenomena contribute to the representation of individual choice, moral conflict, and social instability, whereas in Uzbek literary texts, they play an active role in expressing meanings associated with national awakening, tradition, enlightenment, social norms, and individual freedom. The findings make it possible to interpret symmetry and asymmetry as interrelated linguopoetic phenomena that shape the national and cultural semantics of literary texts.
