Abstract

The article proposes criteria for distinguishing addressee responses, communicative resistance, and counter-manipulation in English and Uzbek literary family dialogues. Four episodes from the works of A. Qodiriy and Jane Austen were analyzed based on the sequential organization of conversational turns. The findings demonstrate that communicative resistance is not equivalent to counter-manipulation.
