This article examines the theoretical relevance of social generations in contemporary youth studies through Karl Mannheim's sociology of generations. It explores how generational formation relates to historical change, social inequality, cultural practices, and intergenerational relationships. Drawing on a comparative analysis of scholarship on housing, employment, economic insecurity, and family financial relations, the article considers how different social conditions shape young people's life trajectories. It argues that social generations should not be understood as homogeneous age groups but as differentiated social formations shaped by historical processes and unequal access to resources. This perspective offers a framework for understanding continuity and change in young people's lives.
